This guide walks you through the minimum to get LegalCloud running on your site. You'll create an account, create a site and a document, and embed it on a webpage.
Before you start
You need:
- A LegalCloud account (create one at https://dash.legalcloud.info/auth/onboarding; the FREE plan costs nothing and needs no credit card).
- Admin access to the website where you want to embed the document.
- A text editor.
Step 1 — Create your organization and a site
When you sign up, LegalCloud creates an organization for you on the FREE plan (one site, three documents). You can change plan later from Organization → Plans & Billing.
Go to Sites → New site and enter the name and the URL of the website where the document will be shown.
Step 2 — Create your first document
- Go to Documents in the sidebar.
- Click New document.
- Fill in:
- Title (internal name).
- Type (Privacy, Cookies, Legal notice, Terms, Conditions or Other).
- Language (
es,en,fr,de,it…). - Body: paste or write the legal text.
- Select the site(s) where it will be shown.
- Save and publish.
The document now has a public address of the form https://dash.legalcloud.info/d/{hash}. You will find the {hash} in the document detail.
Step 3 — Embed on your site
Option A — iframe (5 minutes)
Add this to any HTML page:
<iframe
src="https://dash.legalcloud.info/d/{hash}"
width="100%"
height="600"
frameborder="0"
title="Privacy Policy"
></iframe>
The document is embedded with all the styling, analytics and version tracking that LegalCloud provides. If the document requires a token, see Embedding documents in your app.
Option B — Read it through the API
If you prefer to render the content inside your own page (better for SEO, no iframe), create an API token (Organization → API → Generate new token, shown only once) and call the API from your server:
curl -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN" \
https://api.legalcloud.info/api/documents/{id}
The response is {"success": true, "data": {...}}; the HTML of the document is in data.content. {id} is the document id returned by GET /api/documents — it is not the same value as the public {hash} used in /d/{hash} (the document detail returns the latter in data.public_url).
To check that a token works, call:
curl -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN" \
https://api.legalcloud.info/api/documents/limits
A 200 response with your document usage means the token is valid.
Option C — Plugin (WordPress, Odoo)
We provide official plugins. They are downloaded from your dashboard (Downloads). See Plugins overview.
What now?
- View your document in the dashboard to check the analytics.
- Read API tokens in depth to learn about scopes and regeneration.
- Read Your first document in depth to understand versioning.
- Try every endpoint in the interactive API console.
